Fire Walk With Me DVD news (sort of)

At studio day at Dave's Video, New Line reps stated, "New Line is committed to delivering the best Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me special edition possible." Gee, thanks guys, that tells us a lot. Looks like the deleted scenes rights issues go on. Hopefully the disc will come out sometime in 2002.

Elephant Man DVD news

DVDfile is reporting that Paramount will release Elephant Man on DVD on December 4. Here's the info they have on it:
"Perhaps one of David Lynch's most accessible yet accomplished works, The Elephant Man features a new 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and English 5.1 and 2.0 surround tracks, retrospective cast and crew interviews, a narrated photo gallery and the trailer."

New Twin Peaks movie?

Dark Horizons is reporting that Mark Frost was interviewed on KZO radio this weekend and spoke about a possible new Twin Peaks movie: "Frost is planning to do a spin-off feature film which would bring back at two characters from the series and "Fire Walk With Me" movie tie-in (depending upon getting the rights). Frost wants to get Kyle MacLachlan and Kiefer Sutherland to reprise their roles of Agent Dale Cooper and Agent Sam Stanley respectively, with the setting of this new tale being the FBI headquarters in Washington."
I wouldn't get hopes too high for this film. This is an unconfirmed rumor (not to mention the radio station they list is short one call letter). Even if it is true, since the rights issue hasn't been resolved (not to mention the lack of Lynch involvment), I don't hold out much hope.

Davidlynch.com update

Lynch's official site, www.davidlynch.com, now has something more than just a coming soon picture. Click on the circle next to the question mark and you get a phone similar to the one on the Mulholland Drive site. After dialing the correct number, it plays a little intro movie for the site. It's not much, but certainly a good indication of what we can expect to come. Looks like Lynch has put a lot of time an effort into the site.

More Mulholland articles added

Several new Mulholland Drive articles have been added to the MD articles page. There are two new long ones from Film Comment magazine, plus a couple of brief ones from Entertainment Weekly and USA Today.

Slowly getting back to Lynch

Time to slowly start getting back into the Lynch related material. Before we do, I just want to remind everyone that the Red Cross still needs your donations. See the Sept 11 update for the link where to donate, and thanks to everyone who already have.

Naomi Watts in NY Times

The New York Times has a brief interview with Naomi Watts about attending festivals and Mulholland Drive. You can read it here.

Elephant Man on DVD in the US

Dugpa.com is reporting that Paramount is planning to release Elephant Man on DVD here in the US on December 11th. Remember, this is nowhere near an official release date yet, so don't be surprised if it doesn't make it out by then. But it's good to know work is progressing on the disc and it should be out in the near future.

Rex Reed reviews Mulholland Drive

Minor film critic Rex Reed (you remember, the guy who was arrested for stealing cds a couple of years back) has chimed in on Mulholland Drive from the Toronto Film Festival.
"Like most film conventions, Toronto has its highs and lows. The low point is Mulholland Drive , a moronic and incoherent piece of garbage by David Lynch that was shot as a TV pilot and rejected. Not good enough for television, but lapped up as a centerpiece for the forthcoming New York Film Festival. Has everyone gone mad? Incomprehensible gibberish is no longer a good excuse for titillation, even at Lincoln Center. Fortunately, there is enough good stuff to sweeten the taste of bile peddled by hawkers of pretentious rubbish like Mulholland Drive."
You can read his full article here.

Another review of Mulholland Drive

Some nerd named James Berardinelli (I've never heard of him but he claims to have a lot of readers) has also reviewed Mulholland Drive from the Toronto Fest.
After putting down Fire Walk With Me and Lost Highway, he goes on to complain about the ending of Mulholland Drive. I'm not going to waste space printing the whole thing here. You can read his full article here.

Special Update

With today's tragedy, I'm going to hold off on new Lynch news for a bit. It just doesn't seem important right now. My deepest sympathies and condolences go to the families of the deceased. I'd like to strongly urge everyone to donate blood at your regional blood center. Amazon.com has set up a page where you can make donations to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Visit FoxNews' website to keep up to date with the latest events.
Nothing's the same anymore.
